When people would ask me what I did for a living and I respond with “I have an online business”, they usually respond with “No, I mean full time, like a real job!” (OUCHH)
That comment, as much as it hurt, hit the nail on the head, and got me thinking about what I was actually doing. My online business wasn’t thriving, not like it should have been, and as hard as it was to admit it, the truth was I wasn’t committed to it, I was treating it like a hobby.
If you look at online entrepreneurs, all they have is t
heir laptop, an internet connection and an idea. But they do a few things differently.
Here are a few suggestions I have since adopted to stay committed to my online business.
This sounds so obvious, but one of the most important ways for you to stay committed to your business is by showing up, like you would if you were “working” at a job, or running a traditional brick and mortar business. I have run my business at home, and whether the kids are there or not, I would get distracted! So I finally decided to get a co-working space, and my productivity just went through the roof! SO whether you work from home or have an external office.. SHOW UP and have a plan to tackle the day, stay there and leave when you’re done!
Focus on Your Business
To be focused is to know who you want to serve, what you want to serve and how you will add value to their lives. Occasionally I’ve looked at a company and wondered how they make any money and then realize they are filling a need and they’re adding value to their customers’ lives.
Create quality content and Get it Out There
I live by the saying “You never run out of money, you just run out of ideas”…
Pack your site, programs and campaigns with content that keeps people coming back for more… and they must want to share it and pass it on. Include your industry tips, comments and interaction and always remain true to your brand, from the style and tone and your service.
These are the most basic steps you can incorporate to stay committed.
